January 17th Dance Recap
Thanks to all of you who came out to the January Shaggin' In The New Year dance!
A special thanks to those new shaggers who attended our dance for the first time and to those who joined or renewed their 2009 membership to the Coastal Shag Club. We're so glad you all came and we love to see our 'family' continue grow! Our new president challenged our club to grow it's 67 members to 100 by the end of the year - a truly attainable goal.
It was a cold night but we had a terrific turnout of about 65 people with plenty of tasty treats to share. Jim Sterner and Donna Rosen gave a FREE 'Basic' lesson to all those interested from 6:30 to 7:00pm. This is much appreciated by the club!
Dancing began at 7:00pm and DJ Joey Warren kept us dancing all night and even played a waltz! Don't forget to listen to his show on 94.9 the Surf on Sunday mornings. His wife, Rebecca taught us a new line dance that we caught on to (sort of), just as the song ended. During the dance we discounted SOS cards were sold. Did you get yours? We had one lucky 50-50 winner and one Chili's gift certificate winner. We proudly welcomed shaggers from the OD, S.O.B.S., Waccamaw, and Northern Virginia shag clubs join us for the party.
Exciting announcements were given as businesses in the Shallotte area are learning about us and want to give us some exposure. Look forward to more opportunities to shag in Shallotte during the workweek - as a new restaurant/club opens, called 'At The House'. We continue to have a great turn out at Mama Brava's on Thursdays. Dean Saffos was presented with his ACSC President's Pin and wore it proudly.
The Coastal Shag Club will undertake two fun and exciting charity events - first a golf tournament! WE NEED YOUR HELP. There will be volunteer sign up sheets at our dance for both events. We need ALL CLUB MEMBERS to help find sponsors - professional and individual. Wish you could help but you don't golf, or are unable to volunteer at the event? You can still help by sponsoring a hole for $50! Individual hole sponsorship is tax deductible and proceeds will go to the Brunswick County Meals on Wheels/Senior Center. Next, the Coastal Shag Club 'Wiggle Giggle', which will be a three day 'Big Party', will be held at the Sea Trail Golf Resort, Memorial Day weekend. There will be great food, great music, and loads of giggles. Look for more details in the newsletter and under 'Hot Topics' on the website.
Finally, we will once again initiate plans for to 'road trip' as a club. As the weather warms, we're planning club trips to some of our neighboring clubs (S.O.B.S, OD, Waccamaw, and Cape Fear shag clubs). Get your logo gear now and wear it proudly! More info to come on the web and in the Newsletter.
The SOS Winter Workshop, in Danville, VA will be the same weekend as our dance in February. Tickets are still available for anyone who wants to come (or who hasn't gotten enough cold and snow in January!). Hope to see you all that don't travel to Danville at our February 21st Love To Shag dance. Bring a friend! Let's hit our goal of one hundred.
Our DJ will be David Sessoms of Fayetteville! Don't miss it - there will be lots of love and chocolate in the air. Hope to see you ALL on the dance floor!
