November 21th Dance Recap

Thanks to all of you who came out to dance at our second annual Thanksgiving Feast / Club Anniversary / Nomination / Re-Up Blowout Bash!  

A special thanks to those new shaggers who attended our dance for the first time and to those who joined the club for 2010.  It was an outstanding night with about 90 shaggers in attendance.  We had clubs represented from the S.O.B.S., OD Shag Club, Lake Lure Shag Club, Northern Virginia Shag Club, Carolina Shag Club, and the Smokey Mountain Shag Club.  Whoo-wee!

Donna Rosen and Jim Sterner kicked off the night at 6:30pm with a class of shaggers working on their basic step and one or two variations.  As guests came in the amount of dry good donations got bigger and bigger.  The club voted to bring in additional dry goods for the local Food Pantry at the December dance.

President Mike Rogers started the evening with a blessing and we all dug into the most delicious feast!  The club provided turkey and ham and members brought do many sides and desserts the tables were groaning.  It was all delicious and after we finished we were ready to work off the calories on the dance floor.

DJ Wilkie Whaley played relaxing shag dinner music and then cranked up the beat to get us out shagging to a variety of classic beach music.  When we saw his red hat come out, we knew we were in for a great time and he did not disappoint us.

Drawings were held for the name badge drawing and there were several 50-50 prizes awarded.  During announcements club members were asked to sign up for one dance in 2010 to help set up or clean up at a dance.  Each task will take 20-30 minutes, before or after the dance.  Committee Volunteer Coordinator Claire Cozzi found some Special Olympic volunteer opportunities for us.  Contact Claire for more information, or sign up at a dance.

The Nomination Committee, led by Kim Smith, discussed their open positions and volunteers to fill the spots.  The crowd was asked if there were any additional nominations from the floor.  When there was not, the Nomination Committee announced and congratulated the new slate of officers and board members for the 2010 calendar year:
