Coastal Shag Club Takes 2nd Place in Parade!
As chairperson for the Coastal Shag Club’s first-ever effort in a parade, I am pleased to announce that the club won the second-place prize of $150 in its division at the SOS Spring Safari Parade on April 25th. It was particularly gratifying because there were at least twenty entries with many clubs spending thousands of dollars on their floats.
My thanks to the entire gang who volunteered their time, efforts and convertibles to our entry. Given the “Safari” title, Pam Bruno proposed our “Shaggin’ on the Wild Side” theme, Teresa Boyd proposed that we incorporate jungle animals in our effort and Jo Sellers suggested that we decorate our available cars as those animals. The result was an entry that featured John and Pam Evans’ MG as a tree full of parrots, Bob and Claire Cozzi’s Sebring as a tiger, Mike and Karen Piccolo’s Mustang as an elephant, Matt Dillon’s two Mercedes as a giraffe and a zebra and the Sellers’ Corvette as a cheetah.
Special thanks to Teresa, Jo and Julie Rogers for their time and creativity in making the animal heads that adorned the hoods of the cars. Also, special thanks to Nancy Rains, aka Betsy Ross, for creating the Coastal Shag Club banners that carried our name on the cars. My thanks to Thelma and Roy Herring, Kathy and Dave Cyrulik, Julie and Mike Rogers, Bobby Rains and Dean Saffos for joining those above in the parade. I believe all would agree that we had a great time and it was a great day for the Coastal Shag Club!
By the way, the CSC also became known as a trend-setter at the awards ceremony. If you will recall, the parade took place during the tragic Conway fires. Upon being awarded our check, we promptly donated the proceeds to the Fireman’s/Red Cross Fund that had been established for the victims. Many of the other winning clubs immediately followed suit.
